Working with Virtual Applications

System Center 2012 Configuration Manager included support for version 4.6 of Microsoft App-V. With Microsoft Application Virtualization version 5, released in late 2012, Microsoft completely rewrote the App-V product, dropping SFT, ICO, OSD, and manifest .xml files and introducing the APPV file format that contains all the information in those previously mentioned files. Because of this major rewrite of the product, Microsoft now supports App-V 4.6 and App-V 5 virtual applications coexisting on the same system. This allows customers to migrate from App-V 4.6 to App-V 5 applications in a phased approach, because App-V 4.6 applications have to be converted or resequenced to make them available in the App-V 5 format. ...
