Creating a Device Collection

In Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) 2007, you could extend hardware inventory by modifying two files: Configuration.mof, which contained the classes for reporting and told the client how to report, and SMS_Def.mof, which included the to-be-inventoried classes with their attributes telling the client what to report. Configuration.mof was responsible for defining the data classes to be inventoried, and for registering and defining the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) providers that add functionality to hardware inventory. An example would be reading the registry, which is more than simply using WMI.
