ConfigMgr Cryptographic Controls

Cryptography is the science of using secrets to protect information. Cryptographic methods are an essential part of information security. ConfigMgr uses cryptography to support the following goals:

Confidentiality: ConfigMgr uses encryption to prevent disclosure of sensitive data. Encryption converts data into a form that can only be read by parties with access to a secret key.

Authentication: ConfigMgr uses digital certificates to authenticate the identity of systems during network communications and to sign sensitive files exchanged between systems. Chapter 4, “Architecture Design Planning,” introduces the certificates used in ConfigMgr.
