Reporting Best Practices

Here are some SSRS best practices:

• Create a SQL Server scheduled task to automate backup of the ReportServer and ReportServerTempdb databases.

• Create a script to automate backup of your key Reporting Service files.

• Be sure to save a copy of your SSRS encryption key to a safe and secure location.

• Save a copy of any custom SSRS reports, as you can easily re-create the stock, built-in reports.

• Script report backups using RS.EXE. This utility, available since SQL Server 2000, allows automated routine installation, deployment, report migrations between reporting servers, and other administrative tasks, and uses Visual Basic .NET code. For more information, see
