Software Update Decisions, Design, and Workflow

There are three primary areas to choose or design for software updates in ConfigMgr and the actual administrative workflow for software updates follows their design:

Collections: This is the “where” of software updates and defines the managed systems to which you want to deploy updates. Updates are always deployed to a collection and affect every system in that collection.

The authors recommend you create a separate set of device collections organized in a folder under the Device Collections node in the Assets and Compliance workspace. This set of collections should be used only for software updates and should be sufficiently granular to target the different types of updates you deploy as well ...
