Windows Update Agent Logs

The Windows Update Agent (WUA) is actually a component of Windows and not ConfigMgr. However, as discussed in Chapter 14, “Software Update Management,” the WUA is still heavily utilized for the software update process on managed systems. To this end, the WUA’s log file is important. It is always located in %windir% on every managed client and is named WindowsUpdate.log. Specifically, this log records details about when the WUA connects to the WSUS server and retrieves the software updates for compliance assessment and whether there are updates to the agent components.

To enable extended or verbose logging for the WUA so that extra detail is added to the WindowsUpdate.log log file, add this registry key:
