Chapter 2. Overview of the Systems Modeling Language

SysML is a broad and richly expressive graphical modeling language, enabling you to visualize and communicate the essential aspects of a system’s design: structure, behavior, requirements, and parametrics (mathematical models). SysML can serve as the first of the three pillars of MBSE, as discussed in Chapter 1Overview of Model-Based Systems Engineering.”

This chapter provides a high-level view of SysML: the purpose of SysML as a whole, the purpose of each of the nine kinds of SysML diagrams, and overarching concepts that apply to all of them. This discussion provides important context for the in-depth coverage of each kind of diagram in the chapters that follow.
