Chapter 14. Summary and the Future

SyncML® was initially created to provide a single open specification for data synchronization. Device management came as a second step for the SyncML Initiative. In both cases, companies and individuals realized the need for a single open standard, came together to produce the standard, and worked together to make these new standards as useful and interoperable as possible.

Ironically, like most standards, this standard should become invisible to the end-user. After all of the hard work to create a working standard, the end-user will probably never see the standards in action. They will become similar to the phone lines or water lines—they move the data from place to place and they “just work.”
