Virtual SyncFest

To provide a more flexible way for manufacturers to participate in SyncFests, the SyncML Initiative introduced Virtual SyncFests during the October 2001 SyncFest in San Francisco. This also gives SyncFest participants a wider selection of implementations to test with. This is limited to manufacturers with already interoperable devices.

This way, the Virtual SyncFest participants do not need to travel to a SyncFest. More important, devices can participate at a SyncFest even in cases were the SyncFest location does not provide the required wireless network infrastructure. For example, there is no 900 MHz GSM network, required by many European mobile phones, in North America.
