SyncML Device Management Technology

The SyncML Initiative released the first version of the DM specification as a part of the SyncML 1.1 specification. This open technology ensures compatibility between a large number of devices and management servers. The use of SyncML DM has substantial advantages for relatively small and cost-effective devices. It is wireless-friendly and transport-independent. It also provides an extensible, mature, and flexible security model together with independence from a runtime environment.

SyncML DM technology can be divided into the following three logical components:

  • Bootstrapping [SBO02]

  • SyncML DM Protocol [SDP02]

  • Device Description Framework (DDF) [STD02]
