Chapter 24. Case Study: SVG for Blueprints

The Architectural Engineering Construction industry, or AEC, depends heavily on vector design files. The classic blueprint set, rolled and fastened with a rubber band, is still the primary communication tool at any construction site. Whether up on the high steel or down in the superintendent's trailer, blueprints still rule. Back in the office, CAD software has long since replaced drafting tables, but most of the design files produced with CAD never pass further than the plotter. The Internet has really not affected distribution of engineering designs. This is all about to change with the introduction of XML and especially SVG
