Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML-based graphics standard from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which opens up new and powerful ways for programmers to generate graphics for display on a variety of devices. SVG is intended for the production of two-dimensional vector graphics and so is useful for display of many types of information, including quantitative statistics, graphs, maps, and technical diagrams. SVG is particularly suited to the creation of graphics that are created from data held as XML.
