Abstract

Despite the fact that the amount of energy people need to use in order to live is related to the many economic, social and cultural factors that determine their lifestyle, this chapter intends to discuss the main principles to follow in order to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in housing under Cuban conditions, as a developing tropical country. Traditional and modern Cuban architecture is evaluated in order to find the key elements to be recovered and preserved in present and future sustainable architecture.
