I am frequently asked to give talks to graduate students and new faculty about career planning. I find this difficult to do. Although I think I am one of those people who is a planner, I rarely do it in a systematic way. Often, I make lists of my projects and future proposals, write down goals for long-term projects, and draw maps of different paths I might take.
