Surface engineered titanium alloys for biomedical devices

Abstract:

Titanium and its alloys are the most important metallic biomaterials due to their good biocompatibility and mechanical properties. However, they are still not ideal materials to meet the needs of clinical application. In order to develop advanced medical devices, many efforts have been made to modify their surface properties. In this chapter, the state of the art of surface modification of titanium-based biomaterials for cardiovascular, orthopedic and dental implants is reviewed.
