“Our company is different.” That is the common refrain I have heard from individuals at many companies, usually as a preface to saying why the challenges they are facing are particularly difficult or why standard solutions don’t apply to their businesses. Yet, while the statement is true, it does not follow that the challenges companies face are fundamentally different. In fact, the similarities are often striking even in markedly different industries.
