The supply chain and logistics function is always a prime candidate for outsourcing. Strategically speaking, most successful companies stay with their core competencies and let outside entities help with the rest.

This can range from sourcing of functional areas such as materials, transportation and/or warehouse services, manufacturing to most of an organization, known as a “virtual company”.
