Reward Trade-Offs

Objective

To give participants practice in applying Mutual Reward Theory (MRT).

Problem

Mr. Big wants Supervisor Joe to put more leadership into his style. He feels that Joe must first learn how to make MRT work.

Procedure

All nonmanagement players (five roles) select from the following employee list what they believe are the five most important employee needs that Joe should provide to gain greater productivity. In a separate group, all management players (four roles) choose from the management list the five rewards they feel would do the most to increase productivity. Those in the class or seminar not assigned roles should make their own selections, either individually or as a group.
