THE WORKFORCE CHANGES

The U.S. workforce has been changing rapidly during the last ten years. It is becoming multicultural and multilingual. Women are moving into all occupations and making faster progress up executive ladders. African Americans, Hispanics, Orientals, and a growing number of people from other cultures are improving their skills and earning greater upward mobility. First-generation workers from foreign cultures are arriving and making adjustments to the workforce. The new workforce is a challenge to the front-line supervisor because it is he or she who must work with all individuals on a personal, one-to-one basis.
