ORIENTATION AND TRAINING

All of the time and energy devoted to finding the best available candidate can go down the drain if the newcomer is not made a full member of the team. Chapter 14 provides suggestions in accomplishing this goal. The following suggestions can also be helpful:

  • See that the new member is introduced personally to all members of the staff.
  • Check out the use of any equipment the new employee will operate.
  • Assign a regular employee as a sponsor to answer questions and help the new employee adjust.
  • Make sure that basic department rules and company policies are understood.
  • List and discuss specific responsibilities.
