COMPASSION VS. CONTROL

The inexperienced newcomer to supervision may think that it is impossible to demonstrate compassion and maintain a tight discipline line at the same time. Not so. Compassion for others can be communicated in any working climate. In fact, if handled in a sensitive manner, employees may accept a stronger, lower discipline line from a more compassionate supervisor. Some less permissive supervisors consistently demonstrate that they care deeply for their staff members. Compassion and tight controls on employees are not incompatible.
