THE DISCIPLINE LINE

The climate you establish is the atmosphere under which employees work—the mood of the working environment. It is also the degree of discipline you maintain. How much freedom do you give your employees? At what point do you draw the line? Many management specialists refer to it as the discipline line[1] and add that supervisors must seek and find their own line based upon their leadership styles. The discipline line is the point beyond which employees know they should not push their supervisor; it is the control point. It defines what employees are permitted to do within the working climate without violating procedures, policy, and working standards.
