Global File System (GFS)

SC3.0 software introduces an enhanced method of using file systems with the Solaris OE. An advantage of a GFS is that each node within a cluster can mount files simultaneously, thereby providing a cluster-wide persistent data store. The SC3.0 kernel interface enables the export of a valid UNIX file system globally to all cluster members. The cluster file system semantics are implemented under the virtual file system (VFS) within the operating system kernel, which acts as a proxy layer between the kernel and storage, see Figure 8-2.
