This chapter describes the architecture of the next product release in Sun Microsystems' cluster strategy—Sun Cluster 3.0 (SC3.0) software. SC3.0 software was designed as a general-purpose cluster solution. In the evolution of the cluster product line, SC3.0 software represents a major milestone. Sun Microsystems views clusters as a strategically critical technology and has made, and will continue to make, a commitment to this technology in terms of resources and research. As this book went to print, SC3.0 was released for general availability.
