Highly Available Databases

The basic premise of database high availability is to ensure that any designated database instances will be available for use in the event of hardware or software failure. Although the SC2.2 framework controls monitoring of the hardware and operating system, application software monitoring is performed by means of a data service agent.

The primary function of a data service agent is to log into the database system, query the internal structure, and determine if the database is functioning correctly.
