Logical Hosts and Data Services

Logical hosts are the basis of HA data services. The logical host is the mechanism by which a data service can fail over from one node to another, see Chapter 2, “Sun Cluster 2.2 Architecture.” A logical host consists of data services, a shared IP address, and shared data disks. The logical host provides a mechanism to hide the details of failover from the data services. After a failover, a data service is still accessible to the network using the same IP address and can access the shared data in the same manner. Failover is managed by means of the logical host framework, and is transparent to the data service, with the exception of the interruption to service.
