Cluster Topology

Asymmetric High Availability

Sun Cluster 2.2 software can be configured for high availability in two ways—asymmetric and symmetric. In its most basic configuration, SC2.2 software can be configured as a two-node cluster. One of the nodes will be the primary and the other will be the secondary. If only one database is required to be highly available, one physical server will run the database, with the backup node configured to monitor the primary node (waiting for a problem). The backup node will become active only if there is a failover—in this situation, the backup node will master the logical host, start the application(s), and provide access to the application. After the failed node is restored, the logical host can be moved ...
