Chapter 8. Managing Processes

At some point in our computer careers, some of us have been paged or received a slew of voice mails from users or a help desk telling us that a particular application is not available. When this happens, if you are in the office, you quickly review any log files to see what the issue might be and then you restart the application manually. It’s Murphy’s Law that at some point this will occur when you neither have access to the system nor can restart the application. Consequently, users sit idle and unpleasant “management issues” start to occur.
