Scholars create and describe their world in many ways. They think and build theoretical frameworks, they analyze the empirical data they have collected from the phenomena they are interested in, and they empirically test propositions. There are many paths to scholarship and each scholar chooses the path they will tread.

For Sumantra Ghoshal the path of scholarship he trod had two profoundly important features.
