Greenfielding

As its name suggests, this is the approach to external growth where you build from scratch. You may or may not literally buy a “green field” and erect a factory. The point is that you use all your own resources to expand, rather than leveraging someone else’s.

Often, this tactic is adopted when you choose a road along which to expand but find there is no suitable ally traveling in that direction. For example, we had a client that was providing sophisticated connectivity components for a major U.S. computer manufacturer.
