Premature Commitment Risk

Premature commitments reflect making a choice too early, before all the facts are in. In personal terms, this is the risk of throwing oneself headlong into a relationship before really getting to know the other person. In the context of open source, premature commitment refers to the decision to use an open source product before becoming aware of its strengths and weaknesses as well as failing to determine whether it is the best choice available.
