Chapter 7. New Roles

As we discussed in the previous chapter, teams and organizations resist Scrum for many different reasons. One likely source of opposition to adopting Scrum is confusion over the new roles that exist on a Scrum project. The roles of Scrum-Master and product owner are new ones without exact corollaries in the pretransition organization. It is common for an organization new to Scrum to struggle with filling these roles with appropriate individuals. Until people figure out what the new roles entail and which individuals have those skills, it is hard to put the right people in place.
