How to create strong associations

My participation in the World Memory Championship made me realise the importance of creating strong associations. In a span of three days, all participants were required to remember hundreds of numbers, playing cards, words, dates and events, names and faces, etc. The scoring system was very cruel. It is possible that you memorise the sequence of a 1,000-digit number and yet score zero because of a few mistakes.

I couldn’t afford to make any mistakes, and after experimenting with various association techniques, I finally discovered the rules for creating strong associations. Here are the rules that worked exceptionally well for me, and I am positive they will work for you too.
