Preface
This text is intended for theater technicians who are serious about their craft – the art of creating technical solutions for theatrical designs within a collaborative environment. Having said that, it is not our intention to suggest that there is only one appropriate structural solution to each design, and that it can be tabulated on the pages of this text. It is our intention to introduce the reader to the basics of statics and the study of the strength of materials, providing a foundation in structural design for an intuitive understanding of “why sets stand up”. This foundation will allow technical designers to explore solutions and employ many materials and construction techniques.
