  • A strut is a structural member which is subjected to an axial compressive force. A strut may be horizontal, vertical or inclined with any end fixity condition.
  • A vertical strut is called column, e.g. a pillar between a roof and a floor.
  • A column subjected to a compressive force, P, whose line of action is at a distance, e, from the axis of the column is called eccentrically loaded column and e is called the eccentricity.
