The Strategy Pyramid

In this book I have applied the KISS principle (Keep it simple, stupid) to strategy development. In earlier books, Key Strategy Tools (2012) and The Financial Times Essential Guide to Developing a Business Strategy (2013), I set out a more comprehensive strategy development process called the Strategy Pyramid.

This consisted of nine building blocks (see the figure below):

  1. Knowing your business.
  2. Setting goals and objectives.
  3. Forecasting market demand.
  4. Gauging industry competition.
  5. Tracking competitive advantage.
  6. Targeting the strategic gap.
  7. Bridging the gap with business strategy.
  8. Bridging the gap with corporate strategy.
  9. Addressing risk and opportunity.
