Conclusions
The need for good internal systems will never go away. Whether they are purchased or home-grown, they will still need to integrate with other systems in the enterprise. Ensuring that new systems smoothly support XML, at the very least for data import and export, will extend their usefulness and act as an insurance policy against premature obsolescence.
