How to Use This Book

This book is organized into three distinct parts. Each part is intended to be self-contained, and each can be read out of sequence (or skipped entirely).

Part I, “Pervasive XML,” is a cursory introduction to (or refresher of) XML and its related technologies. It gives a rapid tutorial in the basics of XML, namespaces, DTDs, and schemas. It lists the other XML-related technologies (such as XSLT), what they are used for, and where they can be found. It also explores some of the tools available to XML developers from various software vendors, as well as the large number of open source XML implementations currently in use.
