Summary

Strategic staffing is the process of identifying and addressing the staffing implications of business strategies and plans (or perhaps even of change). The objective of the process is to create a long-term context (i.e., a staffing strategy) within which the most effective short-term decisions (i.e., staffing plans and actions) can be made. The strategic staffing process consists of four steps: identifying staffing issues, calculating differences (gaps and surpluses) between staffing requirements and availability, developing staffing strategies, and defining staffing plans.
