A look at the total process

One aim of this chapter is to reach a deeper understanding of strategic management through a close examination of its components. Vision and leadership are put into the strategic management context. Important research into styles of strategic management and the contingency approach advocated by Igor Ansoff are summarised. The Ansoff scale of turbulence is related to the various planning stages found in a study of the evolution of strategic management. More depth is provided on process of strategic management, including strategic planning, including recent thinking about scenario planning. The final aim is to discuss in outline the elements that should appear in a business plan.
