We have repeatedly made the point through this story that a critical success factor in embedment is the alignment of systems and processes to support the intent of innovation embedment. Whirlpool has always had a strong process-oriented culture, probably due to our roots in manufacturing and quality excellence. Our people were quite accustomed to creating processes and systems that helped us reach our strategy as an organization. In this respect, adaptation and change of our existing processes and systems came naturally to us. In fact, many of our first conversations about embedment were focused on the need to align existing processes and systems.
