A NOTE ON INDIVIDUAL MEASURES

As we discussed in Chapter Three, we did not identify individual-level goals for embedment until almost three years into the embedment process. These goals targeted key job groups or key individuals in terms of what we expected from them in innovation—for example:

  • Number or percentage of people in any work group who can describe how innovation has changed their job
  • Number of job descriptions rewritten to include innovation
  • Identification and removal of barriers to innovation in any work group
  • Written statements about how an individual has used innovation tools
  • Number of performance appraisals that have listed innovation goals for individuals
