ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Gregory S. Smith has more than 25 years of IT experience. He currently serves as CIO for an international firm based in the Washington, D.C., area. Previously, he was the vice president and CIO for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Washington, D.C. Prior to working at WWF, Smith directed software development, e-business, and business intelligence activities for AARP in Washington, D.C. Before that, he was with Sallie Mae, a Fortune 200 financial services firm, where he directed technology for the Corporate Finance Division and two subsidiaries. He has also served as a principal consultant in the Management Consulting Solutions group at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and as a defense IT consultant for SRA International.

Smith is a recipient of the following awards: SmartCEO magazine's Top 10 CIOs in Washington, D.C., in 2011; Computer World magazine's Premier 100 IT Leaders, in 2007; CIO magazine's CIO 100, in 2003; and eWeek magazine's Top 100 CIOs, in 2007. He is the author of Protecting Your Children on the Internet: A Road Map for Parents and Teachers (Praeger, 2009) and Straight to the Top: Becoming a World-Class CIO (John Wiley & Sons, 2006). He has published many articles in his career, including “Talking at the Top of the World” in CIO magazine.
