Upside of the Downside
Author Seth Godin has written extensively about the issue of failure in business. His premise is that in order to get better, we need to redefine what it means to fail. We need to broaden the definition of failure to capture the cost of the disappointment, disillusionment and despair created within organizations by the poor decisions and/or non-decisions our leaders make.
In other words, Godin is asking us to acknowledge there are unintended negative consequences that go beyond the ones we see on the surface of the decision itself.
