Striving for Mediocrity
It is almost as though we take a certain pride in our modesty as we carefully wrap it in our inferiority complex and cloak it with our strange national insecurity. In Canada, we seem more comfortable setting the bar of expectations low, and then professing to be just fine with the result when we fail to meet even that low standard, coming away with a fourth-place finish behind the Americans, the Russians and the Germans.
We see a version of this very same Canadian tendency in far too many organizations, and boardrooms, across the country.
