Role of Governments

In the old industrial economy of mass-production-based blue-collar employment, governments were expected to play an important role in funding major national infrastructure projects. Their role was to ensure businesses across the country had the benefit of the modern means necessary to conduct their business and compete effectively and efficiently. In recent years, it has become popular to suggest that less government involvement in business and the economy is a necessary part of the free market ethos even when it comes to the more strategic, long-term investments required to underpin an attractive investment climate.
