Role of Academia

Several years ago, noted McGill University professor and author Henry Mintzberg wrote a very controversial book titled Managers not MBAs. The premise of his book was to suggest the traditional MBA degree has served its purpose and, going forward, it should not be used as the de facto proxy for determining who gets access to the hallowed halls of business. Indeed, he suggests a more well-rounded background might be more desirable in a world in which practical skills, creativity and insight will be in greater demand than the standardized processes, formalized theories and deep wells of statistical information on which the MBA is founded.
