Winning Is an Attitude

Canadians have long defined ourselves more by our national game than our business acumen. Hockey is a material part of our national psyche, our pride, our passion and our identity. We know how to play the game very well, and we can produce generation after generation of talented players. However, the sad truth is we don't know how to build serially successful franchises that, even as the game changes, are able to lift the Stanley Cup.

We still pack the arenas from coast to coast and religiously glue ourselves to the TV every Saturday night, but we don't demand better leadership and a more competitive product when our favourite team fails to win, let alone make it to the playoffs. We somehow seem permanently resigned ...
