WHAT THE SUMMARY MEANS TO GRANTMAKERS: AN INSIDER’S VIEW

I’ve always worked on the grantseeking side of the table, not the grantmaking side. Over the years, however, I have attended dozens of funder panels and have comoderated more than a dozen “reality grantmaking” sessions where real funders review real proposals in real time and award the best with a $1,000 mini-grant. I have friends and professional colleagues who serve as program officers, foundation trustees, and members of employee contribution committees. These individuals have candidly shared with me their thoughts and observations about the inner workings of a funder’s office.
