CAST Example: What a Difference a Day Can Make

The things we have to learn before we do them, we learn by doing them.

Aristotle, Greek philosopher and author of Poetics, possibly the earliest description of the principles of storytelling

Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.

Albert Schweitzer, theologian, philosopher, and Nobel Peace Prize winner

The two-page visual story in Chapter 1 was really a story about creating a story. The intent was to lead you, the reader, quickly into some of the key reasons for creating a visual story and the activities involved. The objective was simple: to set up a situation you're familiar with, to tell a visual story to show how to get to resolution, and to leave you with the desire to find out more.

If you have read through the book to get here, rather than skipping ahead, you probably realize that we used many of the techniques from CAST to create that story. In the following eight pages we look in more detail at the experiences Bob and his team went through on Thursday and Friday as they prepared for their big presentation.
